TRAI makes VoIP Calls Legal

August 18th, 2008

Convergence India has written that India’s Telecom Regulator has recommended for making VoIP calls legal within India. Until now only ILD VoIP calls were legal. Henceforth you can start calling your friend’s mobile or land line from Yahoo! messenger or any other Internet Chat Client or a VoIP handset to be provided by service providers.

You can also make calls from Mobile IM clients like Mundu thus saving on your mobile / wireline telephone bills. This is a real blessing for long distance Romeos and Juliets to talk unlimited hours. Until now only Reliance offered Onnet unlimited talk-time on certain plans, however, it is likely that most Telecom companies will now introduce calling cards to grab market share.
