Microsoft losing share despite gimmicks

December 21st, 2008

Microsoft search continues to lose market share to rival Google despite stupid gimmicks like cash back and gifts. Microsoft’s search share dropped to 8.3% from 8.5% on a Month over Month basis. Engineers at Google continued to rock as they now control 63.5% of the search market.

Microsoft India continued to offer gifts to netizens using live search wherein a banner would display two dices with numbers on it. Anybody who got a 6 & 6 on dice would get a gift [encouraging users to use Poor Quality Search again and again so that they can at least arrest the downfall]

However, Microsoft’s poor product design didn’t allow the user claim his gift. Instead of stupid marketing tie-ups and tricks, Microsoft should focus on improving search quality which is unlikely to happen as they have already been doing so for the past 3 years in vain.
