Android to Power Converged Devices ?

January 8th, 2009

We are finally entering the era of convergence for office productivity. Smart phones such as Google G1 / Android, iPhone, Windows Mobile are cool. However, they lack support for certain applications for which you still have to carry your Laptops and the drawback for these Laptops is the battery life.

Going by the current trends and innovations in the Valley, one can soon bid goodbye to Laptops and carry an extremely light weight Notebook [image on left] which can last without any recharge for a day. Powered by Qualcomm’s SnapDragon Chipset [ARM Core] at 1.5GHz, Support for Wireless 3G / HSPA with integerated GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth sub-systems. This also has display resolution upto WSXGA or 1440×900.

Android the Platform which evolved for smart phones and supported by Open Handset Alliance is portable to these devices. It will be interesting to see if these devices will replace the Laptops powered by the Windows / Intel lobby. What do you think ?
