Microsoft office 2013 Will Change the Way Businesses Work – Cloud, Collaborate & Communicate

July 17th, 2012

Microsoft took the wraps off Office 2013 (previously code named ‘Office 15’) and released the software to public preview after having been released under technical preview earlier this year. The new release addresses new touch-based functionality for tablets and smartphones but also co-exists with traditional mouse and keyboard based PC systems.

Initial reactions have been positive although we suspect that there may be greater appeal here for touch-based systems rather than legacy mouse and keyboard systems. As a platform for the future, this offers a lot, but there is a learning curve. Here are the specifics on the announced products – Microsoft Office 2013, OneNote 2013 and Outlook.

Microsoft Office 2013 Versions – The central theme around which the new office 2013 is build is 3C – Cloud, Collaborate & Communicate. Microsoft has released a host of versions catering from simple home user, students, to small businesses and large enterprises.

Microsoft Office 2013 and Yammer, SharePoint and FaceBook
Along with the cloud offering, Microsoft is positioning Office as a more social experience. Microsoft will leverage its acquisition of Yammer to deliver a private social network for businesses, complementing Microsoft’s SharePoint and Dynamics offerings. The integration of Yammer, allows for Microsoft to more effectively compete with Salesforce,
Oracle, and SAP as well.
